About the Director : Peter Walker FRICS IRRV (Hon) Cert Ed

Peter Walker was born in Pudsey, West Yorkshire (famous for Cricketers and Pudsey Bear) attended the local Primary Schools of Primrose Hill and Richardshaw Lane, progressing to Pudsey Crawshaw Secondary School and then Pudsey Grammar School for 6th Form. After qualifying as a Teacher (Cert Ed) specialising in Mathematics and Education (awarded by the University of Leeds) a career change beckoned and Peter commenced a career as a Chartered Surveyor with the Valuation Office, Shrewsbury in 1974, moving to Burnley Borough Council and qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor ( MRICS) in 1981. Moving to the New Town of Telford in Shropshire he was employed by the New Town Development Corporation as a Senior Surveyor until 1984. Peter was then ‘head-hunted’ into ‘private practice’ gaining experience in survey and expert witness aspects of the specialisms which can embrace the career of a Chartered Surveyor.

Peter has been employed as a Senior Surveyor with Regional Firms of Chartered Surveyors since 1984 in Yorkshire, North Wales and Cheshire. In 1993 Peter was a founding Partner of Walker Jones Chartered Surveyors becoming Director of the evolved Limited Company ‘Walker Jones Surveyors Ltd’ in 2003.

Experience

The career of a Chartered Surveyor can be varied and over the years Peter has gained experience ranging from valuing property (eg Agricultural, Commercial, Residential) for Central and Local Government on such matters as Taxation, Probate, Rating, Lease, Rent Renewals and in private practice valuing and surveying all types of premises for valuation, mortgage, pre-purchase survey and rent-review.

In 1988 in recognition of his considerable experience in the profession (even at that time) he was elected (via sponsorship of eminent members of the RICS) to the most senior and highest tier of membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, that is to ‘Fellow’ permiting the use of the designatory title and ‘letters’ ‘Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (FRICS).

Current main experience/professional work

Since forming Walker Jones, Peter has developed and expanded the Survey aspects of the Firm to the extent that Walker Jones now enjoy an enviable reputation amongst Clients (and within the profession) for offering quality reports at realistic fees and within an agreed speedy turn-around time. Peter’s reputation and integrity is reflected by the amount of expert Witness Court work he is engaged on, receiving instructions on behalf of the Court from the National Crime Agency, Crime Prosecution Services, National and Regional Legal Firms and private Clients.

Personal

Peter manages to admirably combine duties and responsibilities of a parent with the demands of a vibrant Firm yet remains approachable and readily available to Clients. Peter is a dedicated and Baptised active Christian involved in a range of Church related activities and has wide ranging interests including memberships/support for Heritage Railways and Rugby League. Peter is also a keen Model Railway enthusiast in ‘N’ Gauge.
